Mullins to the Rescue
Hayden Mullins has been recalled from his loan spell with League One side Notts County and will come straight back into the squad for tomorrow’s final home game of the season against Wigan Athletic. Mullins, who turned 35 at the end of last month made sixteen appearances on loan for the Magpies, scoring once.

The Drop Zone
Birmingham City lost 3-1 to Leeds United yesterday to secure an unwanted all time record for the longest sequence of games at home without a win in the second tier. It also ensured that for the first time since just before the halfway point of the season Blues dropped into the bottom three – and with the last game of the season being played next Saturday this is the almost the worst possible time for Blues to be in this position.

Dear Lee: Leeds Preview
Blues face Leeds today in what is a crunch game in the Championship – win it and the teams around us lose and we are virtually mathematically safe; the reverse and we are in deep trouble. A game without a win today also sets a much unwanted all-time record in the Championship of seventeen home league games without a win. With this in mind I’ve decided to dispense with the normal style of these pieces and address this directly to Lee Clark.

First Half Subs
Birmingham City slumped to a 4-2 defeat against Blackburn leaving them outside the Championship relegation places on goal difference only. A first half hat-trick from Rudy Gestede along with a deflected effort from Todd Kane gave Rovers a commanding 4-0 lead at the break and while Blues gave the scoreline some respectability by pulling back goals with Nikola Zigic and Demarai Gray it was another sorry afternoon at St Andrew’s.

Home Game Hoodoo: Blackburn Preview
Lee Clark’s Blues take on Blackburn Rovers today in the first of three games at St Andrew’s as his side looks to end the home hoodoo which has lasted 15 league games back to October 1, knowing that the relegation trap door has gotten much closer following defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Squad Numbers
Lee Clark told the Birmingham Mail today how he didn’t want to rely on loans at Birmingham City; that he wanted a squad of players contracted to the club as a core group to build around with younger players from the academy to pad it out and to continue emerging as they have done in the last few years.

Spirit
Blues came crashing back down to Earth last night, losing 3-1 away to Middlesborough once again undoing the momentum gained from an important win. Despite losing two players to second yellow cards Boro were able to hang on – and even improve – on their winning scoreline, with Lee Tomlin able to capitalise on a defensive error to score a third for Aitor Karanka’s side.

Looking Up
Two goals from Federico Macheda helped Birmingham come back from 1-0 half time deficit against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday to win 3-1, lifting the Blues up to 18th place, seven points clear of the bottom three.

Crunch Games
Blues face Doncaster Rovers on Saturday at the Keepmoat Stadium in another crunch bottom of the table clash. Should Blues win they will go above Doncaster on goal difference; defeat however will leave them looking nervously over their shoulder as the bottom three close in.
