Blunted by the Blades – Blues Development Squad lose to Sheffield United
Birmingham City’s Development Squad suffered a tough 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Sheffield United counterparts on a cold and blustery autumnal afternoon at Wast Hills. Goals from Danny Philliskirk and Terry Kennedy gave the young Blades the points with Papa Bouba Diop scoring Blues’ effort.

Hancox, Deaman and Diop
In amongst the takeover news that broke yesterday Blues also announced new contracts for two youngsters – Mitch Hancox and Jack Deaman. Both had previously only been on contracts until Christmas and the renewal of their deals sees them now stay with the club until the end of the 2012/3 season.

Big Win For Young Blues – Professional Development League Report vs Huddersfield Town
A cold St Andrews saw Birmingham City’s development squad comprehensively beat Huddersfield Town in their first home fixture of the Premier Development League. Blues however had a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Nick Townsend to thank as he made several saves to keep the Terriers out in the second half before Akwasi Asante made it safe.

Carter and Hancox
Wednesday was a day of contrasts at Birmingham City. On trial midfielder Darren Carter was told by Blues manager Lee Clark that he would not be offered a contract at St Andrews whilst young rookie left-back Mitch Hancox was given the squad number 27 for the season ahead.

Hancox or Gordon?
Despite Sky Sports announcing prior to Blues game in Munich that they had completed the signing of Chelsea’s young left back Ben Gordon the move hasn’t actually come to fruition yet. With young Academy left back Mitch Hancox impressing in both pre-season games so far for the first team, the question is starting to be asked – do we need Ben Gordon?

The Left Back Conundrum
With David Murphy receiving a red card for two bookable offences on Tuesday night, Blues are once again going to have to solve a conundrum as to who to play there. As the red card was for two yellows it can’t be appealed even if Blues had wanted to do so, and as such Birmingham have four fit first team defenders currently for the Cardiff game on Sunday – Peter Ramage, Curtis Davies, Steven Caldwell and Pablo Ibanez. Which way do they go?
