Transfers
Pace, Age and Underinvestment
One of the most important things in a football team these days is pace. Blues lack pace – especially at the back and they suffered badly for it on Saturday as Sone Aluko swiftly breached the creaking Blues defence twice to score. However, it’s struck me that the lack of pace in the Blues side isn’t the cause of Blues woes; it’s an effect of a much deeper malaise.

Silly Season Begins
It’s only been three days since the transfer embargo was lifted but the silly season has already truly started. The sad thing is that I’m not particularly referring to the media but more the expectations of some sections of the fans – I think some people may be in for a very disappointing summer when all is said and done on the transfer front.

The Five Stages of Supporting Blues
Twenty-four hours is a long time in football. In that time I’ve seen the whole gamut of emotions within the comments here after the departure of Jordon Mutch to Cardiff. I like to think of it as the five stages of Birmingham City.

Spinning Plates
The funny thing about money is the less you have, the more you talk about it. I know in some eyes it’s tedious – and to be frank, I can almost agree with those people, Blues money worries are getting boring – but I’m going to touch on the subject once more, so please bear with me.

Gossip Folks Week Five
With three quarters of the transfer window gone, it’s time once again to look at how the transfer rumours have been progressing.

Gossip Folks Week Three
We’re just over a week into the transfer window now, and I’m starting to build up some hits on the spreadsheet of transfer rumours regarding Blues players.

The Transfer Merry Go Round
Well, we’re a week into the transfer window and as yet, barring the extension of Guirane N’Daw’s loan bugger all has happened. There’s been a bit in the papers about who Blues are going to sell and for how much, but nothing concrete has emerged from the club as of yet. I don’t really want to get into who’s going where, but I did want to write an article about transfers in general.

Loans and Feeders
It was published in the Telegraph today that FIFA are to ban “emergency” and “youth” loans as currently allowed by the Football League from the 2014-15 season as they contravene FIFA laws on transfer windows. It got me thinking about how this could impact us at Blues, and whether it was a good idea or not.

Gossip Folks – The Transfer Window Rumour Mill Experiment
It’s now less than two weeks until the transfer window reopens, and with the current “financial situation” Blues are in, the rumour mills and gossip has already started about who is to leave the club and where for. I’ve always been one to not believe a transfer is going to happen until the player referred to is holding the relevant scarf/shirt at the relevant ground, and so I’m slightly sceptical of newspaper gossip. To that end, I’d like to introduce to you a series I’m looking to run through January on this site – and ask for your help.

Que sera sera…
It seems to me that the rumour season is in full swing again. Last week it was all about an alleged takeover; this week it’s about which players are going to be sold in the transfer window – and once again the alarm bells are being pressed as people are convinced Blues are going to cash in on their young prospects such as Jack Butland.
