Enric Valles
Where’s Valles?
Some time back on a messageboard not too far away, there was a bit of an in-joke made about players being in the squad, but never anywhere near the team – as if they were locked in a cupboard somewhere. The original joke named it the “Jamie Clapham” cupboard, after the erstwhile leftback, but I think we’ve got a new occupant and a new updated name for a sad old joke – Enric Valles.

Time for Valles?
I’ve been kicking around in my head a few ideas about what Blues should re players; it seems obvious to me right now the 4-2-3-1 formation we’re playing is suiting our first choice personnel well, but with Mutch in the treatment room still (is it a busted ankle?), Gomis unfit for the last two games, Fahey apparently ineffective against Middlesbrough and Beausejour out of position, are Blues going to have to change things to try and accommodate our threadbare squad?

Give Hughton a Chance
One thing that is clear from all the reports I’ve seen from people who went to see Blues play yesterday at Middlesbrough is that the team is knackered. They tried hard first half, did well first half but the after effects of playing in Europe kicked in in the second half, and the team just fell away. It’s understandable really, and shouldn’t be used as a slight against them or Chris Hughton. However, with one and a bit weeks left in the transfer window, it’s getting down to a time period when things need to happen.

Squad Analysis Pt II
Yesterday I took a look at the Blues squad, highlighting who I thought was likely to leave, the shallowness of what was left and the areas Blues need to strengthen as a matter of urgency. Now the squad for the five day trip to Ireland has been announced, I thought I’d look at that and reflect further.

Loan Rangers
With the current dearth of stories regarding possible incoming players to St Andrews, I thought I’d take a look at some players I’d like us to take on loan. Now, before we get into this, none of these are players that I “know” Blues are interested in, they’re just potential loan signings I’ve picked out. It’s not even speculation, it’s just a look at what is out there.

Contracts
As the 2010-11 season draws to a close, eleven Birmingham City players are in a position where they don’t know what club they will play for next season. Under the Bosman ruling, they are free to talk to any club outside of the English League system about a contract for next year, but will have to wait until June 1 before they can discuss terms with another English team. I thought I’d take a look at those eleven players in a bit more detail.

Y Viva España
After noticing Miguel Marcos Madera (Michel to his friends) wasn’t in the eighteen against Blackpool, (the third successive occasion that this has happened) I came to the conclusion that Michel is most probably on his way out of the club. It led me to thinking about Borja Oubiña, amongst others – and the thought struck […]

Transfer Targets
With it being the close season, besides the World Cup the only thing to talk about in club football is the transfer market. Birmingham City have already spent a fair old wedge of money to secure three signings – Ben Foster from Manchester United, Enric Valles from NAC Breda and Nikola Zigic from Valencia. With […]
